Atmosphere 2021

By Yuki Okazawa

While exploring and practicing the relationship between image and sound, I have been creating and exploring the possibilities of video works that deviate from general forms of expression, such as experimental film and video art.

I have mainly shot "landscapes" with a video camera. However, as I felt the limitations of filming myself, I decided to use materials filmed by others.

With the technique of using existing images and materials shot by others, and with the certain condition that I myself capture the "landscape" with my camera, I create multiple images of abstract colors, shapes, and movements from these materials. I want to decompose or layer these multiple images and sounds in a way that has depth and provides a place in my work where I can discern, think, and imagine each image and sound as if I were sharpening my five senses.

I believe that to survive in a society where there is an overabundance of information; it is necessary to have the ability to see these things and to create something by combining them.

Also, by applying experiments that have been repeated many times in the history of film, I would like to create works that will help people be aware of the past, learn from the past, and think about the present while staying close to the times.
