About the Artist
Bala Sarasvati
Bala Sarasvati, Jane Willson Professor in the Arts at the University of Georgia Bala Sarasvati holds MFA, MA, BFA and BS degrees and is a Certified Movement Analyst specializing in the application of movement theory to dance training and performance. She is also a certified teacher of Yoga Trapeze. Her dance choreography, film integration and movement training approaches have been presented throughout the US at conferences, festivals and concerts including Piccolo Spoleto Festivals (Charleston, SC), LIMS MOSAIC (NYC, NY) John F. Kennedy Performing Arts (Washington D.C), Miami, Florida, and internationally at Centro Coreográfico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, Laban Trinity Centre, London, Beijing International Arts Festival and seven cities in China, National le Danse, Paris, on tour in Taiwan. Additionally at World Dance Alliance events held in New York City, Brisbane Australia, St. Johns and Vancouver Canada. In Costa Rica, she has served as a graduate dance faculty member for Nacionale Universidad de Costa Rica, as a dance specialist for the Danza Universitaria company and the Programa Danza Abierta at the University of Costa Rica and a guest choreographer for Compania de Camara Danza. Bala has also collaborated with Compañía Nacional de Danza Costa Rica member Mario Vircha on many creative projects. Founding artistic director of CORE Contemporary and Aerial Dance, she has developed and presented numerous large scale interdisciplinary/multimedia presentations, integrating film with contemporary and aerial dance choreography for 20 years.
